Best Practices

I wanted to write this post for a long time, however it never happened until the day I decided to post it.

Below are some best practices that I’ve adapted:

Before Going to Bed

  • Setting the phone aside an hour before going to bed
  • Praying to god (right before laying down)
    • Expressing my gratitude for everything that was provided for me and my family for that day, including every bite of food and every breath of oxygen that I inhaled
    • Asking for forgiveness for anything I may have done knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, intentionally or unintentionally to hurt someone’s feelings, causing pain or badmouthing or causing emotional or physical damage
    • Forgiving everyone that may have knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, intentionally or unintentionally hurt my feelings, caused pain or badmouthed me or caused emotional or physical damage
  • Saying positive affirmations softly while falling asleep. (Pick anything you like that you want to change about yourself)

After Waking Up

  • Praying to god (sitting position)
    • Expressing my gratitude for waking me up and giving me:
      • Another beautiful day
      • Eyes to see the good & positive
      • Ears to hear good & positive
      • Nose to smell the good senses
      • Mouth to say good & positive
      • Tongue/throat to taste/swallow good & healthy foods
      • Hands to help others
      • Legs/feet to walk to good things
      • Brain to understand/think/learn
      • Memory to remember only good things
      • Heart to show compassion & love
      • Good Health & Peaceful Mind
  • Ignore & avoid looking at phone
  • Freshen up and sit for Meditation
  • Say my daily dua (prayer)
  • Practice Pranayam (Prāṇāyāma is the practice of breath control in yoga)
  • Some basic stretching exercises
  • Finally 15 minutes of phone time (News, Social Media, Stocks & etc)
