I wanted to write this post for a long time, however it never happened until the day I decided to post it.
Below are some best practices that I’ve adapted:
Before Going to Bed
- Setting the phone aside an hour before going to bed
- Praying to god (right before laying down)
- Expressing my gratitude for everything that was provided for me and my family for that day, including every bite of food and every breath of oxygen that I inhaled
- Asking for forgiveness for anything I may have done knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, intentionally or unintentionally to hurt someone’s feelings, causing pain or badmouthing or causing emotional or physical damage
- Forgiving everyone that may have knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly, intentionally or unintentionally hurt my feelings, caused pain or badmouthed me or caused emotional or physical damage
- Saying positive affirmations softly while falling asleep. (Pick anything you like that you want to change about yourself)
After Waking Up
- Praying to god (sitting position)
- Expressing my gratitude for waking me up and giving me:
- Another beautiful day
- Eyes to see the good & positive
- Ears to hear good & positive
- Nose to smell the good senses
- Mouth to say good & positive
- Tongue/throat to taste/swallow good & healthy foods
- Hands to help others
- Legs/feet to walk to good things
- Brain to understand/think/learn
- Memory to remember only good things
- Heart to show compassion & love
- Good Health & Peaceful Mind
- Expressing my gratitude for waking me up and giving me:
- Ignore & avoid looking at phone
- Freshen up and sit for Meditation
- Say my daily dua (prayer)
- Practice Pranayam (Prāṇāyāma is the practice of breath control in yoga)
- Some basic stretching exercises
- Finally 15 minutes of phone time (News, Social Media, Stocks & etc)
